A proverb is a short, pithy statement of a general truth, one that condenses common experience into memorable form. Or as defined by Miguel de Cervantes, it is “a short sentence based on long experience.”
Here are some famous proverbs that will prove useful to you in spoken and written communication:

When someone has done something bad to you, trying to get revenge will only make things worse.
- The pen is mightier than the sword
Trying to convince people with ideas and words is more effective than trying to force people to do what you want.
